One place that is high on our list of insightful experiences for our tour transport service, is a visit to Robben Island.

South Africans are all indelibly connected through the crime against humanity that was Apartheid. The majority of us experienced it first hand and are still suffering the consequences

Some of us benefit from it by enjoying generational wealth or the social capital that comes with being culturally connected to those who are better off due to generations of privilege.

So this is the place you want to visit to get a tangible connection to this country and what you learned about Apartheid.

Robben Island is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is staffed by people who were actually imprisoned there. It can only be reached by ferry, all part of the package, which takes about 40 minutes. On the island, the experience is delivered in two parts. A bus trip through the whole island while learning about its history. This is followed by a visit to the prison itself ormer inmate will share their past experiences.

Robben Island is a waypoint that gives food for thought about how we relate with each other in this increasingly precarious and seemingly insecure world we live in. While the people of South Africa continue to live with the ongoing legacy of apartheid, the opportunities provided to former inmates and other employees of Robben Island allows them to reassert some control, a sort of ownership of the past. You, the visitor, may leave a little closer to understanding our violent history. This is the nascent foundation of a new future

If you want to arrange a visit to Robben Island and other historical sites in Cape Town, give Fair Cape Shuttles a call so that we can work with you to arrange an itinerary

For both overseas and South African tourists to Cape Town, one of the things that are high on their list of priorities is spending some time on the city’s beautiful beaches. In fact, Cape Town’s beaches have consistently ranked in the top lists worldwide. Some beaches have a vibrant party atmosphere with high-end restaurants that line the beachfront and many places to find the perfect sundowner. Others are more secluded for a quiet escape from the buzzing summer crowds. There are so many options to soak up the sun on Cape Town’s Beaches; we thought we should share some options with you.

Llandudno Beach

Head to Llandudno beach for perfect Instagram pictures, with big boulders and fine white sand. A well-maintained promenade runs the length of the beach for a nice stroll that’s kind on the feet. Unlike Camps Bay, there are few amenities so go prepared with a picnic basket. The kids will love fossil and sea glass hunting while you drink in the vista of the glittering turquoise ocean and the magnificent surrounding mountain backdrop.

Camps Bay

Camps Bay, one of the most popular beaches in Cape Town, is the playground for sun tanners and loungers. It can be packed in summer as this is the place to see and be seen. During the day you can enjoy stunning views of the Twelve Apostles and get active with volleyball and frisbees. In the evenings you will feel like you finally arrived as you sip on your sundowner at one of the many bars and restaurants lining the beachfront as you watch the sun dipping into the ocean.

If the chilly waters of the Atlantic put you off, you will enjoy the warmer ocean temperatures of the Indian ocean in Muizenberg. Although you will find all the amenities you need conveniently close, the beach stretches for miles with enough space to secure your own secluded sunbathing spot.

Boulders Beach

Boulders Beach is an attraction on its own. Not just for the beautiful secluded beach, but also the penguins. Located near Simons Town, there lies a little secret, a protected colony of African penguins. On the Indian ocean, the water is warmer, and you may be more willing to dip your toes into ocean on this side of the map. With many attractions on the way including Just Nuisance, it is a great spot to do some sightseeing and swimming.

If you are in Cape Town or are planning a visit, give us a call to arrange your perfect beach outing. Our friendly drivers will pick you up and take you back according to your own customized itinerary.

Cape Town is a complex city and in which it’s easy to spend days without actually experiencing anything that has a real and intimate connection to its community. The beauty of the private tours we offer is that you can escape the just too perfect tourist playground and get a peek at what makes Cape Town tick. Two historical sites that will give you a scent of what belies the matronly, wholesale tourist experience, are The Treaty Tree in Woodstock and The Princess Vlei in Grassy Park.

The Khoi people were the earliest recorded inhabitants of the city and today many of their descendants still live on the Cape Flats. The Treaty Tree, a 500-year-old white milkwood tree on Treaty Road and south of the rail line in Woodstock, marks the location of South Africa’s first major war of resistance, where the Khoi defeated a feared European military commander. This is where the Khoi Portuguese soldier Francisco D’Almeida, met his demise with 64 of his men after a confrontation with the Khoi. According to legend, a confrontation arose after D’Almeida and his men stole cattle and abducted women and children at an ancient Gorinhaiqua kraal.

Another interesting historical site is Princess Vlei, a wetland in Grassy Park in the Southern Suburbs. The legend recounts how a young Khoi woman who was was apprehended and attacked by European sailors while bathing. Her tears created the smallest vlei in the string of wetlands, called Princess Vlei.

These are just two of many places in Cape Town that symbolise what is truly beautiful about the city – its people’s tenacity and courage in the face of adversity. We hope you will find the stories behind these places as moving and inspiring as we do. These are the stories that fortify us for many challenges still faced by the people of Cape Town.

We are often tasked with helping our clients create captivating experiences when we escort them around Cape Town, and one of our favourite day trip locations to recommend is the Hemel en Aarde Valley.

It’s only over the last decade that the valley became known for its wines, but from 1817 to 1846 it was home to a leper colony. The deep valley was the ideal place of isolation for those shunned from society.

En route from Cape Town, your day trip will take you through the Hottentots Holland Mountains via Sir Lowry’s Pass just after Somerset West en route to the Hemel en Aarde Valley It’s a region filled with wonderful contrast, from rugged mountain ranges, breathtaking coastal vistas and rolling vineyards.

The coastal waters of the valley is home to the Southern Right Whale. Every year during the onset of spring from September, more than 150000 flock to Hermanus when the whales arrive to breed. You will also be able to see humpback and brides whales as well as African penguins and cape fur seals. The annual whale festival will resume this September, after being scuppered last year due to the CoronaVirus.

While you are in Hermanus, why not include a hike in your itinerary? The Fernkloof Nature Reserve that encircles the town offers you the unparalleled opportunity to bask in the beauty of the Cape Floral Kingdom with over 50 km of well-maintained trails traversing the hills and mountains surrounding Hermanus

Want to experience the splendour of Hermanus and the Hemel en Aarde Valley? Give us a call to arrange the trip of a lifetime.

If rural authenticity, rolling vineyards and mind-blowing food experiences are what your heart yearns for, there are few alternatives for the Boland town of Paarl. Exploring the wine routes of Paarl is a no brainer if visiting Cape Town.

Paarl is known for its vineyards and world-renowned wines. Olives, tobacco and citrus fruits are also produced here. The picturesque town is scattered with historical buildings with the Berg river gently meandering through the middle of it.

History was made in the town when Nelson Mandela was released from the Victor Verster prison on the outskirts of Paarl. Before his release, Nelson Mandela was held in a house previously used to accommodate prison warders. Visits are allowed to view the house and the bronze Mandela sculpture by Artist Jean Doyl at the still functioning correctional facility.

A visit to Paarl can’t be complete without a taste of the local wines. Full-bodied and spicy red and crisp white wines are the hallmark of the Paarl wine route. Explorers are spoilt for choice when it comes to opportunities for wine tasting and cellar tours of the renowned estates of the area. Some farms also have picnic spots with breathtaking views, titillating food and wine pairings and whole family activities.

Wines from Paarl are world-renowned. With a host of different varieties, they are top in almost all of them including Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Shiraz and Pinotage. There are 49 wine estates in Paarl alone, plenty of wine to taste and a beautiful scenic view to match. Travelling through the countryside is just serene.

Just around the corner from Durbanville and Stellenbosch, the wine visiting options are endless. You can book a private day trip to Paarl by car or shuttle by calling us or completing our contact form. We will also be more than happy to help you plan an itinerary for the day.

With the extension of the school holidays and many livelihoods at risk, there are still tons of options to safely and responsibly support our tourism industry. Cape Townians are truly blessed to live in a city with the beautiful parks, the sea air and mountains in such proximity. We compiled a list of places to visit and things to do before the kids go back to school in February and while level 3 restrictions are in place.

The Food Hub at V&A Waterfront Makers Landing features local chefs serving anything from curries to locally produced cheese, koeksisters and coffee. Pop in for authentic fair such as braaivleis, koeksisters and traditional Zulu food with a western twist.

If you are bent on experiencing what the ocean has to offer despite the beach ban, you can still do so without breaking the rules. Visit Cape Point for beautiful vistas of the Atlantic Ocean from the lighthouse, lunch at the Two Oceans Restaurant or a hike in reserve.

The Kogelberg Nature Reserve is South Africa’s first biosphere reserve and a World Heritage site. The rugged and untamed beauty is like a balm for the soul, and the area is so vast that you are unlikely to bump into other visitors at proximity.

Do you need help to shape your local day-trip adventure? Our tour guides will not only get you to your destination and back in comfort, but you can also count on their knowledge to get the most of what Cape Town has to offer.

The gradual lifting of travel measures has brought back hope to the tourism industry in and around South Africa. Now that the bans have been lifted, tours can sometimes be a great way to travel, or they can be a disaster. Like most decisions, deciding to book a tour involves weighing up the pros and cons. Why should you book a tour? Sitting with a tour group is not for everyone, but the advantages of taking a tour can most certainly enhance your trip, especially in the beautiful Mother City.

Planning

Sit back and allow us to remove the hassles of you planning a tour; let us take you on an unforgettable journey in and around the Mother City. Our professional tour guides have predetermined tours for you to select from, so remove the excuse and book a tour with us.

Transportation

Transportation is a key part of most tours. A professional tour company knows exactly the quickest route from point A to point B, so you will never have to worry about getting lost. You won’t have to deal with confusing public transportation or taxi drivers who might not speak the same language. This can also help with places you can’t get to with public transportation. Taking a tour is a perfect solution.

Social Aspects

Meeting new people and creating new memories if part of the tour experience. If you’re travelling solo, tours are a great way to meet and share new moments with travellers so you won’t feel completely on your own the whole time. You’ll be spending lots of time with these people seeing the sights and exploring the cultures, and you might even make a new friend out of it.

Information

Your tour will most certainly come with a guide. Not only does this mean you are with someone who is extremely knowledgeable about the area you’re travelling in, but it also means you will have someone giving you accurate information about the sights you’re viewing. Historical information allows you to experience the cultures and traditions which are found in these sights you are touring in and it does not just come across as venue or site.

When you are planning a tour of a stunning location such as Cape Town, more often than not, you are focused on the fun part of this rather than the logistical side of the journey. However, an important aspect of any tourism adventure is choosing the best tour transport services for your needs. This can be difficult if you do not have any experience in planning a tour.

When you are looking at tour transport services you should look at several important aspects. Starting by reading reviews online will provide you with an idea of what their customer service is like, and you will also need to look at what types of vehicles are available. If this is becoming a little too confusing, below we outline how to choose the best tour transport services for your next big adventure.

Select Your Dates

The very first step in choosing a tour transport service is to select the dates of your trip first. This will help you to see which tour transport companies are available for when you need them. If you are travelling during a peak tourism period, you will need to book your tour transport service early, in order to avoid disappointment.

Once you have chosen the dates of your tour around the Mother City you will have a clearer idea of which tour transport companies are available. Many will have the option to use an online booking form to check their availability, so use this to your advantage. This will help you to see who is available and can help you to make a final decision on the tour transport service you eventually choose.

How Many People Will Be With You?

Once you have decided on which dates you would like for your tour, you will need to consider how many people will be going with you to explore this exciting province. The number of people joining you can have a direct impact on the type and size of the vehicle you choose or are designated by the tour transport company.

A larger tour transport vehicle might be necessary if you are travelling with a large number of people, while a smaller one is ideal for a group of four or fewer people. You might find it easier to book two vehicles if you have a very large group and a busy itinerary, as this will allow everyone to enjoy the experience without feeling cramped or rushed.

Where Will You Be Going?

Many Cape Town tour companies offer tours that explore several areas of Cape Town, from the Peninsula to the Winelands. The availability of some tour transport services does depend on where you would like to tour, as some areas can become extremely busy during peak tourism season.

You should do some online research about the different exciting locations in the area where you will be, as this will give you a clearer idea of what areas are covered by the tour transport services. Many transport companies will be able to take you to different areas but this will depend on how busy and how much traffic there is in the area.

Think About Budget

While you might be excited about the concept of exploring a new place, you will need to consider your budget carefully. Your budget will ultimately be the deciding factor in which tour transport services you choose. For example, you might want to create a custom tour but do not have the budget for this, which will mean choosing from a generic tour package.

Thinking about your budget is vital, as it will directly impact all of the activities you can take part in on your tour. You can request a quote from the tour transport services and provide them with a rough guideline of what you can afford. For example, you might only be able to afford a tour of the Winelands with a stop-off at three wine farms instead of five.

Always Read Reviews

An important step in choosing the right tour transport services for your needs is to read online reviews from previous companies. If a company is highly responsive to both positive and negative reviews, it means that you will receive good customer service and will have your queries answered as quickly as possible.

Choosing the right tour transport services for your needs can be difficult but with a few tips and tricks, you can make the process quick and simple. Start by choosing your dates and destinations, as well as how many people will be going with you and what your budget is. If you would like to book tour transport for your next trip, contact Fair Cape Shuttles today to find out more.

Travelling to South Africa is arguably one of the most popular items on any explorer’s bucket list. The untouched beauty, stunning animals, and unique flora make it the ideal destination for those who enjoy the adventurous side of life. Cape Town is one of the most popular destinations, and for good reason, as it has activities ideal for those who prefer the finer things in life as well as for those who enjoy adrenaline-fuelled fun.

If you are planning a Cape Town tour there are some pointers to remember. Consider the time of year you would like to go, as the summer weather can become extremely hot, and the cooler months might mean that you are not able to view any animals. Not sure where to start? This article discusses some top tips for planning the perfect Cape Town tour.

When Should You Go?

This is arguably one of the most important questions to ask when you are planning a Cape Town tour. If you would like to spend a large amount of your tour time outside, enjoying the natural scenery of the province, then you should choose to go in the warmer months of November through to February.

However, these months are some of the busiest months of the year for Cape Town, so be sure to choose your activities wisely. Choosing the cooler months of June through to September will mean that you will need to pack warmer clothes with you. You may also find that some of the tourist attractions are less crowded, making this an ideal time to go for those who want to explore some of the more popular destinations.

Scope Out The City Centre

Exploring the city centre of Cape Town can be exciting, but it will mean that you need the services of a Cape Town taxi company. For first-time visitors to Cape Town, staying in the city centre provides you access to destinations such as Sea Point, Greenpoint, Woodstock, and Observatory.

You will also be better able to visit landmarks such as the V&A Waterfront and the surrounding area. This will allow you to experience the colourful Cape Town culture in full, making for an exciting and unique journey. While the outlying suburbs such as those in the Winelands are also fun to visit, they can be expensive to visit and may not offer as many activities as those you can find in the city centre.

Pack For Every Type Of Weather

The weather in Cape Town is known for changing from hot, to cold, to hot again, during the course of one day. You will need to pack the right clothing for this, so be sure to bring along a light jacket with you when you are out and about. If you are planning on exploring Table Mountain, be sure to bring along a warm jacket, as the winds can be extremely cold.

For those who are going on a safari or are going to be hiking for most of their Cape Town tour, packing sturdy shoes, long pants, and plenty of sunscreen is important. Long pants will ensure that you do not fall victim to any ticks or insect bites, as the warmer weather can draw these insects out. Nighttime can be cooler than expected, so bring along warm clothes for evening outings.

Book In Advance

Cape Town is a highly popular city with bost tourists and locals alike, which means that you should book your activities in advance. If you are using a Cape Town taxi service, booking trips a few days in advance will help to ensure that the right vehicle and the best driver are available for whatever your needs may be.

Booking in advance will also ensure that you are not left in this exciting city with little to nothing to do. Look at the time of year that best suits your travel plans, search for exciting activities in the city centre, and remember to pack clothes for both hot and cold weather. If you would like a safe and secure taxi service for exploring Cape Town, be sure to contact Fair Cape Shuttles today to find out more.
